PS2 online play via PS3!

Last night a friend and I decided to have a bash on Burnout Revenge for the PS2 on our PS3. We thought we'd have a blast at trying to get the game online but expected that it wouldn't be supported.

We were so wrong and with some directing from myself my firend managed to navigate EA's log in screen and got us online. Sadly there only seemed to be about 3 people actually playing and we got our butts kicked.

That said it's made me wonder how many other games that have online feature for the PS2 will work with the PS3.

If you've found any let us know.

Hardware review...

Sony Memory Card Adaptor £12.99 Gamestation. Firstly I've two things to say about this device: 1) Why the helll was this damn thing so bloody hard to find in shops, I've been after one of these since the PS3 came out cos I wanted to go back and play some of my old games. Mainly Resi4; 2) You should be warned like the PS3 pads it doesn't come with a USB cable. Which as I've mentioned before I think it's bloody rude not too. That's my moans out of the way and it seems to be nearly all good news from here on in. The device allows you to copy data between a physical Memory card and it support both 1MB (PS1) & 8MB (PS2) and the PS3's internal memory cards. Sadly the system doesn't seem to support it being used as an actual slot in game but you can save to the HD and then copy the file back to the memory card and continue playing on another system. What I haven't tried yet if downloading a game save and copying it to the Memory card. I'm aiming to have a go with MGS3: Snake Eater as I don't have my old save.

"It's good to chat..."

I've had quite a few issues with the PS3 chat functions mainly due to my Blue-tooth headset (review coming soon) and NAT setting on my router. But a couple of times now I've managed to get online and chat to a few of the clan I'm in and for the first time last night I managed to get my Eye-Toy working as a web cam and it didn't log me out of the network which it had been doing. It's really good to be able to chat to real people and finally see what people look like. Roll on the Playstation Eye (PS3 Eye-Toy) which is supposed to be out at the end of this month along with Singstar. I'm aiming to get both products so I'll let you know what I think.

My PS2 games revisted part 1...

I had a lot of issues with the PS3 and it's like of PS1/2 chips in the EU PS3's to save Sony £15 per machine. Mainly due to the fact that until I did the first Firmware update none of my old games worked. After that update I was left with 5 games that didn't work [PIC TO BE INSERTED HERE] I'm now on Firmwarte 1.82 and now two of the above seem to work (X-File:Resist or Serve & Crash: Nitro Cart), Buffy: Chaos Bleeds loads but after that the menus don't display properly and the game loads into a level all jerky and unplayable. Some better news is that most games I have seem to work but I'll put a glichy games entry on youtube soon, to cover the more annoying problems

PS2 games playable online via PS3?

As I've previously mentioned I managed to get Burnout: Revenge online. Since I've managed to get MGS3: Snake Eater to connect to the network and download some new camo (very strange). Sadly the game crashed during a movie so I never got to try them out. Killzone was also tried but require loads of faffing with internal memory cards to free up 3Meg for the required Update. Then after logging in I was told my account had been suspended. I need to look into this as there were at least 15 people shown as online in the EU. As I'm, having trouble with R:FoM it may be a good place to get some practice in before Killzone 2 hits the PS3.

E3 overload...

The Playstation stores have been a wash with trailers for up coming PS3 titles after this years Electronic Entertainment Expose (E3) in the US. The best bits have to be Killzone 2 (looking like the prerendered stuff from a couple of years ago), MGS4 (new HD trailer which gives away a bit more of MGS4's plot), WIpeOut HD (looking lovely and should be a cheap store download), LBP (still looking awesome).

Finished MPO

I managed to finish Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops at the weekend and I wasn't disappointed. The games takes a bit of getting used to bbut once you do it's loads of fun. Typical Koj it's full of little secrets and unique soldiers to recruit including stars from MGS3 (Ocelot, Eva, Sokolov). I did kinda of rush the end and didn't finish all the missions but not bad for my first crack. The last Boss was far too easy though. Managed to have a couple oif online games with a friend. We had a bash at a few of the different mission types. Death match is the easiest, but team event worked well cos we were both in the same room so could direct each other. I'm aiming to go back through the game and try and get some of the extra characters and play a fair whack online.
