PS3 returned to Sony...
My PS3 has been experiencing a few Blu-Ray games (BDROM) reading disc issues. Which has meant that last week I had to contact customer services. The machine was having trouble reading the discs and showing them in the XMB (PS2 type disc read errors me thinks). But would work occasionally. Very strange.
They were very helpful and offered to exchange my machine. The machine I was warned would be a reconditioned unit but that had gone through factory (new machine testing). All they wanted me to send them was the unit it's self including the HDD. This was done with a courier who exchanged my machine for a new covered in plastic machine. Which I'm blogging from now ;-)
They have been a few issues. As my machine had about 50 GB worth of data on it including games, saves, music, pictures and movies I needed to back this up. Sunday was spent looking for a cheap external HDD. Product review coming soon I feel.
The PS3 has a back up utility that sadly doesn't back everything up...

This has meant I've loast loads of home made vids on SIngStar and Eye- Create. As well as £44 worth of SingStar tracks. Sony have told me it can take up to 28 days for my wallet to be refunded. I've also had to have my game download licenses reset. A total pain considering the machine isn't even 1 years old yet. But thankfully is still fully covered by it's manufactuires warranty. There are loads of things that have frustrated me about this whole process but at least I should now have a working PS3 again and an additional 3 months warranty.

The hassle that has ensued from exchanging my faulty machine has been numerous including reseting everything. The machine was reconditioned and came with the last Firmware update already installed.
I had issues with buddies not showing as logged on eventhough I was getting message and chatting to them.
I've lost a fair few game saves that couldn't be backed up. Everything that could took sometime to be placed back where it needed to be.
Not to mention the over 2.5 hours to redown.load all my games and add-ons.
Sony also reset my account password which meant I could log in until I noticed a message in my email with the new password in. They have refunded me my SingStar purchases also.
The new machine seems to work fine.
