In a cardboard box up until it's time to beta....
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty PS2 New ( bought a day before offical release release in 2002) £44.99 HMV
So No beta yet, how will I ever pass the time? Well I've decided that with a friend who doesn't understand all this hype about SNAAAAKE! to go back through and watch the someone else play. Meaning I see things I haven't seen before and also watch how someone else approaches this great game.
Sadly due to my PS3 being exchanged I've lost my MSG2 save, so I have to start a fresh.
I chose to show the game off as Snake in the Tanker mission. The person watching did seem impressed and was shocked at how poor I was at the game. Please bear in mind, I was playing it on Hard after 5 years since I last completed it. My god the controls are fiddley but work. I am sadly missing the lack of rumble of Six-Axis PS3 pads. I got to the MG: Rex stored in the hold. I won't spoil it for people but it a bit of a challenge. I'd managed to show how to do a hold up and take someone dog tags.

I never played much of MGS 1 on the PS1 as I could do stealth at that time but with playing lots more games that require it I now understand the sentiment much better and MGS is amazing even for a game that's this old. THat said there are so many little easter eggs and bonus hidden around the game that it's such a treat and I've seen stuff this time that I'd never seen before and tried to approach it as a show of rather than a perfection play through.
That can't be said for the person itching to grab the pad and play. So I saved and let them start a new game...

They chose the "I known nowt about MGS and have never played the other and I'm rubbish at action games anyway option." Ie Very Easy mode.
They gave me a puzzled look when the game didn't start with a bloke "smoking a fag" on the bridge.
But started completely differently. ie On the Big Shell as Raiden. Apart from them having troubles with the controls, they soon started to pick it up and I directed them to a few of the little bits to test how to play.
My first major surprise was they really like Raiden, and couldn't stop making him slip of bird poo, when they got to the roof and LOLing. So far they've managed to get quite a way into the game. ANd seem to be liking it but hating all the CODEC chatter. The only real sticking point was 1st finding the lift to then basement, then trying to work out how to get a guard to use the retinal scanner with out knocking them out. They are also determined not to kill anyone either, an admiral choice. Which they managed to take Fatman with a tranq gun.

Hello to all that are reading this comment. I am the determined friend. I must say that walking away from this game to carry on another day was very hard. And yes I really like Raiden. Shame he's not in any of the other MG games. Apart from (obviously) MGS 4. Although, to make it more confusing for me, no explanation to why he's now a cyborg! Ah well. I currently have an assignment to complete on the history of Metal Gear, which may take me a while because my head is trying to cope with the time lines, release dates of the games (none of it follows in the right order!), and who and what is snake. I would like to thank Connor for having patience and giving me time to realise the splendor of the Metal Gear games.

You're more than welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying the experience that is Snake and Co. The timelines are all messed up but in theory you can play them in any order. Wait until you try to complete MGS3 and create timne paradox's by killing Ocelot. Very sill. I'm back on MGS2 to see if I can find anything that you might be interested in. I'm currently doing hold ups for Dog tags and trying to complete the Tanker (Snake) mission without any kills. I've also been hunting for Easter Eggs and found a couple of very silly moments.
Re: Raiden you may will start to understand by the end of Big Shell why Raiden becomes a Cyborg ninja but I'm guessing, MGS4 will explain it all.

Today due to a serious lack of enthusiasm, a day off work and a real hankering to try and find stuff on MGS2. I've played so far 8 Hours on V. Easy (yes I'm rubbish), but I was trying to collect as many Dog Tags from hold ups, trying not to kill anyone, and set off as fewer alarms as possible. Not chance of least shot fired though.
As well as hunting for Easter Eggs this has including Uploading FHM snaps from the camera and Otacon, moralising and taking a backup.
Having fun with the guards. I didn't realise that is you don't fatally wound a guard they will patch themselves up if left alone. Meaning you get another attempt at holding them up. So far no deaths and a lot of dog tags but I should expect that in the time I've taken. I'm just about to enter the 2nd Shell complex. Which I messed up just after I saved by accidently shooting a seagul with a Sniper rifle and it fell through and Infr-red trp wire setting off a big badaboom
I'll add my final scores and see if the MGS scoring site is still there.
